It’s About Love
Part 1-God’s Love for Us
(download the It’s About Love bookmark here)
Why does God want a relationship with you?
In a word—love.
One day, I was enjoying a thought-provoking discussion with a good friend and Christian mentor in my life. On that day, God taught me a lesson I will never forget.
During the conversation I asked, “Why does God want an intimate relationship with us if He doesn’t need us?” (“After all,” I thought, “God is all-knowing and all-powerful and can choose to do whatever He wants.”) My friend responded that it’s not because God needs us. He wants us, which is much better.
Then, he asked this question, “Why do you want to be close to your children?”
I replied, “Because I love them.”
Immediately, a light bulb lit up in my head. I had been searching for answers to many questions such as,
- Why should we pray?
- Why does God want a relationship with me?
- Why do I need to trust God?”
The answer was suddenly simple. It’s about love.
The rest of that afternoon, I couldn’t stop thinking about God’s love for me. God’s love was the answer to so many of my questions. As God taught me, I wrote the poem below in my journal.
I have made this poem into a bookmark and it is available at this link if you would like to print it out on some cardstock to use.
I hope it helps you realize how much God loves you and wants to be in a relationship with you and involved in all aspects of your life!
In this post we learned about God’s love for us. In It’s About Love-Part 2, we will learn about our love for God and for others.
IT’S ABOUT LOVE
by Brian Goslee
God has a plan for my life, because He loves me.
God lets me suffer and grow, because He loves me.
God encourages me, because He loves me.
God speaks to me through others, the Bible, songs, and directly, because He loves me.
God wants to spend time with me, because He loves me.
God lets me experience discipline, because He loves me.
God gave me the freedom to choose, because He loves me.
God wants me to be aligned with His Spirit, because He loves me.
God allowed His Son to be crucified on a cross, because He loves me.
God wants the best for me, because He loves me.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
