Recently, I was listening to a remix of a great song called Echo, by Elevation Worship. It reminded me of how the thoughts and words that “echo” in our heads make a big difference in our everyday lives. These echoes affect our moods, our confidence (or lack of it), and whether our focus is on ourselves or others. The thoughts God wants us to have “rattling around” in our heads are positive, accepting, and loving. Sure, God may be in favor of some appropriately corrective thoughts sometimes, but predominantly we are to be reminded often of God’s love, acceptance, and goodness, in order to combat the negative self-talk that is not from Him.

 

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8, NIV)

 

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have thoughts like

  • “I’m not good enough. I can’t do that.”
  • “I don’t have enough _____.”
  • “I need to fix ____ before God can use me.”

 

Those are all lies. Lies that the enemy wants me…and you…to believe.

 

God wants other thoughts to echo in our heads—thoughts from Him. Thoughts that bring us confidence, peace, and purposeful productivity:

  • “In Me and through Me, you ARE ENOUGH. Be confident in that.”
  • “You have everything you need to follow me and do what I have called you to do.”

 

So, I encourage you to fight the echoes of negative self-talk and doubt from the enemy and replace them with the echoes of God’s truth, affirmation, and love for you. Let the words below help you with that today!

 

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
